The George Clooney Tracker, provided by yours truly

March 12, 2009

Since Clooney came to the Lou to film Up in the Air, everyone has been fussing over his whereabouts.  (“He was at Miso last week … He was seen stumbling out of Sub Zero the other night … I just saw him at 8th & Market!”)

Clearly, St Louisans are excited there’s a celeb in our city.  No, it doesn’t mean we are hicks and have nothing better to do.  Instead, it’s like adding a new spice to a sauce – it makes things interesting.

While I would love to drive around St Louis trying to catch a glimpse of the hunk-of-the-hour, I have a job to do. (No, it is not providing you with to-the-second Clooney updates.)  So, in response to all of this Clooney love exerted by my fellow townies, I decided to create a Clooney Tracker, based on the tool Kim provided in her post yesterday entitled “Twacking Twitter”.  (BTW – Amazing tools, Kim.)

By using this tool, called “TweetGrid”, you can find out what’s being Tweeted about Clooney.  It may not be the best aggregation of updates since it’s only from one source (Twitter), but hey, it’s better than nothing.  I plan to use this tool – as well as others like Trendrr and Twendz – in my dad-to-day project research.  I’m excited especially about what I can gain about our local clients from these tools.

Props go out to Kimber for posting about these Twitter tools.

If you find Clooney, go old skool and e-mail me. I must meet George. Terrific use of Kim power.

I love this usage of twitter. Per a stellar conversation with Luhning, I am a HUGE supporter of looking at Twitter as a poor man’s real time reporting tool. While we all can follow Stefano from Days or follow our friends every 5 minute updates . . . the power of twitter is best represented by the reporting that happens around an event. The inauguration. The plane in the Hudson. A stellar conference. Commentary on the SuperBowl commercials. OR where is George in St. Louis. When looking to see how to use Twitter for marketing . . . it’s the power of th eevent, the time, the reporting where it’s at. Love it!

Here’s another interesting development in Twitterville: crime-fighting!
