Donny Says …
I’m fascinaed by the presidential election, the evolving brand narratives of the candidates and the co-creation of the meaning of it all. I’ve been reading thoughts on the Palin Pick from folks all over the political spectrum and the various takes on what she means are fascinating, but also predictable. But this analysis by Donny Deutsch left me speechless. Not just his argument/opinion/whatever. But the nature of the cultural conversation knitted with the strategic discussion. Donny takes what could have been a strategic discussion of the role of emotion and crafting a narrative and positioning … and spins it out to place that will leave you breathless. I haven’t been left this dumbstruck by Donny since that picture of him in a speedo went racing around the internet.

When I initially read your post I thought you were dumbstruck in a good way. Now I know. Can you say “ewwwww!!!!”
He has one good point: she has tousled some feathers.
He has a great point. This is exactly what I’m hearing reflected from female professionals to male professionals to waitresses to artistic folk to housewives to hunters. Terrifying, but spot on in the reactions I’ve heard.
Sadly, he’s right: people respond to the basic stereotypes he’s talking about more than anyone is willing to admit. The beautiful part for me as a Democratic feminist is that this strategy blew up all over the Republicans. Of course, it helps that she has the ethics of a robber baron and operates according to Machiavelli — and it doesn’t take much beyond basic Googling skills to figure that out.
